Gin & Ginger Jars
Welcome to the very first post from Gin & Ginger Jars!
To kick things off, I wanted to share a little bit about myself. I’ve always had an interest in the built environment, but I think my love for interior design started my sophomore year of high school when I took an aptitude test and had to research what the profession entailed for a school assignment. That led me to taking an architecture course my junior year and realizing that I enjoyed creating the interior of spaces much more than the exterior. Like many I didn’t fully understand what the profession entailed until this point. From there I landed at Baylor University (Sic’em Bears!) where I pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Interior Design.
I can’t quite pinpoint where my passion for historic preservation began, but if I had to guess, I think it might have been my first trip to Savannah, Georgia after my freshman year of college. This passion deepened once I discovered Charleston, South Carolina the following summer. I then began to realize that interior design and historic preservation could be used in tandem to create spaces that not only look aesthetically pleasing, but also honor the character and charm of the structure and those inhabiting it. During the pandemic, I decided to take a leap and apply for a graduate certificate program in historic preservation through University of Texas at San Antonio. I completed that program this past spring and have only started to scratch the surface of how I can incorporate my new found knowledge into my career as a designer.
Now you’re probably wondering how the gin portion of Gin & Ginger Jars fits into this. Again, thanks to the pandemic, I discovered something new about myself….I enjoy creating cocktails! (One thing to know about me, I’m always looking for the positives in any situation - prefer to look at life through the silver linings) I also learned gin is one of my favorite bases to use for these creations. So combine that with a more classic take on interiors, and Gin & Ginger Jars was born!
Another important thing I feel I should mention is my dog, Indy. You’ll see him pop up on my feed and the blog from time to time and he is just as important to this new endeavor as I am. Affectionately referred as my lad of leisure, he’s a 3 1/2 year old great pyrenees, border collie, & spaniel mix. I adopted him only a couple months after graduating from Baylor, so he and I have been through quite a bit of life together so far. I could talk about him for hours, so if y’all want to know more about him let me know and I’ll give him his own blog post!
I never saw myself as a blogger, but during the pandemic I felt called to share my ideas and passion for interior design and so this creative outlet was born. I’m so excited to finally be able to share this dream with you all and can’t wait to see where this new journey takes me. So with all of that being said, if you love interior design, historic preservation, cocktails, dogs, or all four like me, I hope you’ll follow along!
